Non-Accredited Short Course: Writing Children's Stories

Description

Children's literature is a highly rewarding market for those who have learned the techniques, and by practice, have gained the skills to write the types of stories children love and need. Stories to entertain hold their attention and guide them through life.

This course provides a solid background in writing for a range of ages, from infants to 12 year olds.

Students in this course will study a range of topics that include:

  • Researching is serious fun
  • What is good writing
  • Principles of effective writing
  • Getting good at grammar
  • Laying out professional style manuscripts
  • Storytelling principles
  • Considering character
  • Settings and situations
  • Writing to reach young readers
  • Creating a picture book
  • Writing and illustrating children's picture books
  • Writing the modern fairytale
  • Dramatic writing for all age groups
  • Writing material for juvenile magazines
  • Fiction for the age groups
  • Marketing

How do I enrol?

This study option does not require a formal application. Please take note of recommended entry requirements and enrol via one of the options listed below.

Enrol over the phone:

  1. Download the associated enrolment documents and a copy of our Student Guide.
  2. If you have Internet available, log on to Student Self Service (http://enrol.tafe.net) to create or update your personal student profile.
  3. Call our Customer Service Centre on 131 248 during business hours with your credit card and concession details (if applicable) ready.
  4. The Customer Service Officer will mail you a copy of your enrolment confirmation and receipt to confirm your enrolment.
  5. If you are studying on campus, attend your orientation which will introduce you to your teachers and prepare you for your learning experience.

Enrol in person

  1. Download the associated enrolment documents and a copy of our Student Guide.
  2. If you have Internet available, log on to Student Self Service (http://enrol.tafe.net) to create or update your personal student profile.
  3. Visit one of our 4 Customer Service Centres (Ithaca, Bracken Ridge, Caboolture and Redcliffe) with your completed enrolment documents, credit card, and concession card (if applicable).
  4. The Customer Service Officer will provide you with a copy of your enrolment confirmation and receipt to confirm your enrolment.
  5. If you are studying on campus, attend your orientation which will introduce you to your teachers and prepare you for your learning experience.

Please Note: Full payment is required for students enrolling online.

Please ensure that you have payment and concession information available at the time of enrolment.

To Enrol Online:

  1. Make sure that you have read and understood the enrolment documents available below.
  2. Log on to Student Self Service to create or update your personal student profile
  3. Click on "My Enrolments" and enrol using DP Number " 0000277176 "
  4. Print or save your receipt and enrolment confirmation

When can I start?

You may enrol and commence study at any time through the year.

How long will it take?

You can enrol with us at anytime. You have 6 months to complete this course.

How much will it cost?

$320

This is a full fee for service program, therefore no concessions are available. There are no refunds provided after enrolment for this program unless requested within 5 days prior to start of study.
