This program is designed to provide a foundation of knowledge and skills for people intending to work in art related industries or undertake higher level studies in visual art. Core studies include drawing, history, theory, health and safety and development of art concepts. Electives offered include ceramics, painting, drawing, digital art and sculpture.
On completion of this program, you will have the required skills to prepare a portfolio for further study or for employment in the art industries. Employment possibilities include self employment, artist assistant working in art centres, museums, art studios or art organisations.
39227QLD Diploma of Visual Art is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop skills and techniques relevant to employment within the visual arts industry. The program includes core competencies in visual culture and professional practice plus elective competencies in studio areas such as painting, sculpture, printmaking, digital media, drawing and ceramics.
Do you want to be a Professional Artist? Are you an artist who wants formal qualifications? Would you like to undertake a visual arts diploma as either a part-time or full-time student? If you are mature-aged, or have completed Year 12, a Certificate III in Art or equivalent and have a portfolio this course could help you realize your ambition. Our highly professional teaching staff are all practising artists. From them you will learn both practical skills and theory in core units and electives. Core studies include art history and theory, professional practice, and occupational health and safety. Studio electives offered include painting, drawing, digital art, ceramics and sculpture.
This course has been developed in consultation with industry to meet the needs of the graphic design industry in Queensland. Industry endorsed improvements from previous Diploma level design qualifications include:
* Embedding new technologies and the broader skills base required for Graphic Designers across print, web and multimedia.
* Providing the skills and knowledge in web development using industry standard software applications. Graphic Designers need to be proficient in multiple aspects of web design, ranging from domain registration through to site development, uploading to remote servers, and web site maintenance.
* Providing exposure to diverse yet interrelated areas such as design, pre-press, web development, multimedia, photography, production, interpretation of briefs, marketing and project management to ensure the development of multi-skilled graduates.
* Providing flexibility in course structure to allow for both contextualisation and focus in a specific industry area, and a more generic approach according to the needs of different industry sectors.
This course provides students with a visual approach to graphic design and web technologies. The course includes four major topic strands:
* Visual Print Design: Design for printed output using industry standard software
* Visual Website Design: Front-end visual design using industry standard software
* Web Technologies: A visual approach to internet programming and database design/web integration
* 3D Design: A visual approach to 3D design for cross media output (e.g. web and print output) using industry standard software. Course emphasis includes:
* The acquisition of digital competency with a creative focus using industry standard software such as Adobe's Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat; Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, Contribute and Discreet's 3dsmax.
