This is an accelerated program, designed for professionals who have extensive bookkeeping experience.
Legislation passed in March 2009 requires entities providing BAS services for a fee will need to be registered as a BAS agent. There will be a transitional period of two (2) years from the date of effect of the legislation to allow entities to comply with the proposed legislation. This qualification can assist in meeting the educational comoponent of the registration requirements.
The Certificate IV in Financial Services (Bookkeeping) covers a range of areas including:
- Identifying opportunities relevant to business improvement
- Establishing and maintaining accounting systems
- Understanding key concepts aligned to the bookkeeping industry (in regards to legislation)
- Developing management systems for organisations.
Key areas of learning include:
- Cash Accrual Accounting
- Business Activity Statements
- Preparation of financial statements
- Establishing and maintaining payroll and inventory systems
Develop your supervisory skills in bookkeeping in the areas of manual and computerised systems for cashier, management of general ledger and creditors and debtors subsidiary ledgers, end of month processing and account reconciliation, preparation of trial balance and preparation of financial reports, and document management. You will learn about payroll, EFT/e-business, budgeting, business tax requirements, GST and BAS reporting, legal decision making, costing and asset and inventory accounting.
Develop your bookkeeping skills from first principles and improve your chances of gaining employment in accounts payable/accounts receivable, payroll, or as a cashier. You will learn bookkeeping - manual and computerised systems, preparation of financial reports (monthly and end of year), debtors and creditors, end of month processing and reconciliations, EFT/e-business, GST and BAS accounting and reporting, and document management.

Gain a comprehensive grounding in accounting responsibilities in client service, quality financial/business processes and information in the financial services industry. You will learn accounting principles, management of manual and computer accounting systems, end of month processing and reconciliations, financial statements preparation and analysis, internal control, management accounting, creating reports for management, budgeting, income tax, and company statutory reporting. Business planning, financial management, business performance, and GST and BAS statement preparation are available as elective choices.

Participants of this program are able to use the Diploma of Accounting to articulate to the Advanced Diploma of Accounting, which provides membership to the National Institute of Accountants (NIA). many graduates choose this option to gain employment in the profession before going on to studies at university part time, while they continue to work.
