What will I get out of this program?

The responsibilities of the enrolled nurse include :

  • assisting clients with the routine activities of daily living
  • recognising the changing needs of clients
  • performing assigned and delegated functions from the nursing care plan.

The enrolled nurse monitors the impact of nursing care and maintains ongoing communication and provides support and comfort.

On successful completion of this course, students are eligible to apply for registration with Qld Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse with medication endorsement EN (Med).

What job opportunities will I have?

Students may be eligible for employment within private or public hospitals, domiciliary services, aged care facilities or medical practices.

Do I need to have prior knowledge or work experience?

Completion of Year 12 with sound achievement in Maths, Science and English recommended.  Mature age students are welcome to apply.

How much time will I commit?

Students will attend Brisbane North Institute of TAFE, Caboolture Campus for 18 months to complete the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled / Division 2 Nursing) and will then continue the Bachelor of Nursing with QUT which will take 2 years. 

Vocational Placement

This program has a component of 400 hours mandatory Vocational Placement over 3 semesters which ALL students must attend. This is arranged by Brisbane North Institute of TAFE staff according to program requirements. Vocational Placement may consist of shift work (ie. 7.00am - 2.30pm commencement). Students will be required to have the following prior to commencement of Vocational Placement : Current Senior First Aid Certificate Student Blue Card Criminal History Check Hepatitis B vaccinations which can be obtained from your family doctor. Proof of commencement or completion of Hepatitis vaccinations will be required at time of application.

 

How much will it cost?

Estimated cost for 1st semester of study is - Full Fee : $2,260; Concession : $1,842.

It is expected fees will cost approximately $7,000 full fee or $5,780 concession fee over 3 semesters.

Students will also be required to pay an additional $30 administration fee.

This program attracts some government funding, therefore limited concessions may be available for eligible students. There are no refunds provided after enrolment for this program unless requested within 5 business days prior to start of study.

Resource Requirements

In addition to paying enrolment fees outlined above, students will be required to purchase the following items, which include estimated costs, listed below :

  • Textbooks over 3 semesters (approximately $600)
  • Uniform to be worn during Vocational Placement and practical sessions in the clinical lab - navy skirt or pants.  Students will be required to purchase shirts with Brisbane North Institute of TAFE logo (approximately $35)
  • Closed in shoes
  • Fob or wrist watch with a second hand (approximately $80)
  • Nurses Kit containing scissors, stethoscope and pen torch, (approximately $79).  This equipment may be purchased from the Qld Textbook Warehouse.

Additional Information

The requirement of the completion of the Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled / Division 2 Nursing) qualification consists of competency in 21 core units and 5 elective units.

  5. If you are studying on campus, attend your orientation which will introduce you to your teachers and prepare you for your learning experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) identifies the skills and abilities you currently hold regardless of how, when or where the learning occured. This includes any combination of formal or informal training and education, work experience or general life experience.

The RPL process allows your teacher or assessor to consider and evaluate your skills and abilities against the learning outcomes in a unit of competency that you are seeking recognition for.

If you feel that you may be eligible to receive RPL, discuss this form of assessment with us prior to enrolment.
